Sophie Randall – Toboggan Run
“Using the Quarry’s structure, its natural beauty, and with strict reference to the surrounding land, a new regional park will be designed in the Hornsby Quarry area. The parkland will be a place for leisurely recreation, a place to have a picnic and a place to appreciate the surrounding vistas that the Quarry presents. The original bush recreation activities such as mountain biking and bush walking will be kept and their experiences enhanced. New activities such as tobogganing will be introduced to the site as this will attract a wide range of ages and will provide a source of revenue for the site.
A mixture of design and nature will make up the parkland, allowing the visitor to easily break off and explore the bush. The design will be intriguing, one that allures the visitor and invites them to investigate through the presence of many thresholds and dynamic suspense.
Special consideration will be given to environmental sustainability, especially through the treatment of water. Education about this will be given on site. The Crusher Plant will form a central hub for the site and new points of access will be developed to allow easy entry to the parkland.”
