There is such a feeling of remoteness in this vast 100-metre-deep hole that it’s difficult to believe you’re only a few minutes’ walk from Hornsby Station. The bushland backdrop of the adjoining Berowra Valley National Park only heightens the scene of peace and tranquillity.
One of the key features of the quarry is the diatreme, a geological formation that is visible in the eastern rock wall of the quarry. This will still be visible once the NorthConnex filling operation is complete.
The quarry is currently closed to public access because rock falls make it very dangerous. Once rehabilitation works are complete the quarry void will be the centrepiece of the new parkland.
